8 of the Deepest and Darkest Secrets from the World of Cricket
The cricket world has for hundreds of thousands of years been guarded by mystery. Today we pull back the curtain and take a look at some of the biggest and controversial secrets those big wigs at ICC and BCCI don't want you to know.
8. Gautam Gambhirr used to be a fortune teller - We all know about Gautam Gambhirr the cricketer. The legendary top order Indian Batsman who had a habit of delivering at the grandest stage of them all. But did you know that GG used to be a fortune teller while he was trying to crack it as a cricketer? Yes! It most definitely is a true fact. You may see glimpses of his greatness in his recent tweets as the genius successfully predicts the future and tweets just the opposite of what is going to happen just so that no one doubts his magical abilities. Legend has it that the "Sundarlal" character from TMKOC was also inspired by some aspects of him.
7. Narendra Modii was named after the Narendra Modii Stadium - Did you know that arguably the greatest politician India ever produced was named after the largest cricket stadium in the world? Sounds insane right? But it actually happened. You can check on Google and both the individual and the stadium have the same names!
6. Toss Results are fixed by the bookies - The probability of getting a heads or tails in a coin toss is 50/50. That's basic math. But what if I tell you that the coins are actually paid off by the bookies so that they can earn money by winning bets. Yes that is indeed correct and the biggest example is that of the recently concluded India vs England Series where Captain Kohlii won just 2 out of the 12 tosses which is mathematically impossible. Our sources have confirmed that the coin used during the tosses were actually paid off in figures ranging six figures each for altering the results. Voila! The more you know.
5. AB De Villiers belongs to the Andromeda Galaxy - There have been several conspiracy theories which suggest that ABD is not from this world and I can confirm it that it actually is the case. Abraham Benjamin De Villiers was a common man in his native planet of Niðavellir but since Thanos snapped his planet out of existence (in his quest to get all the infinity stones), he was forced to come to earth so as to save his life. Here he got a new identity by the name AB De Villiers (which is so close to his real name) and started living in South Africa. If only everyone knew about such a secret. Haters say that Mark Zuckerbergg was also from the same planet.
4. Piyush Chawlaa and Sachin Tendulkarr are the same person - For years cricket fans have been decieved into thinking that Piyush and Sachin are two different cricketers. But when you look at the evidence, it becomes crystal clear that they're the same person. Allow me to present my argument : both cricketers are of the same height. Co-incidence? I think not. That was easy, wasn't it? We didn't need an eight part Netflix series to reach that conclusion. To further support my argument, here's a question for you : Have you ever seen Piyush and Sachin in the same field at the same time? Ha? There might have been an odd interaction between the two but believe me when I tell you that it was all a hologram and Piyush doesn't actually exist. It's all a part of a running joke the dressing room boys have been playing since the past decade.
3. Pakistan Super League Doesn't Exist - Well everyone knows this, don't they? The ICC banned Pakistan from hosting any cricket matches back in the day and the rule still applies. If you look carefully, you'll realise that all the matches are edited out clips from all other different matches and carefully put together by the Pakistani Media so that the fans and cricketers alike can finally fill the void of not being allowed to play in the IPL.
2. Virender Sehwagg is my dad.
Before we conclude our list, here are some Honorable Mentions :
•The Umpire's Call always has been the most accurate method to take a decision and it still upholds.
•The incidents of the movie Lagaan are actually true and Bhuvan was actually Kunal Kumra in disguise all along.
1. The results of all matches are pre-determined - I mean this was pretty obvious. Just like pro-wrestling, cricket is actually pre-determined. All the results are actually written ahead of time in the sacred book published by the ICC each year. Cricketers are asked to follow the script and act accordingly. Those who oppose to doing so are actually asked to retire. Huh. I'm looking forward to my vote of thanks after revealing such big secrets to you.
